What can I say…like Bruce Springsteen…I was born in a deadman’s town…the first kick I took was when I hit the ground…I was Born in the USA.
The F is for Francis. A good Irish Catholic middle name.
I live in Santa Rosa, California and can’t imagine living anyplace else right now at this point. Northern California and the Bay Area is a wonderful area to be from and make a great home base to adventure out from.
I do nature photography of landscapes and wildlife. I also enjoy the occasional fun of photographing urban landscapes with the lights of a city being the main focal point. I do it for fun and not as a profession. My real job is a Computer Network Administrator at Sonoma County Superior Court. I have always found computers fascinating and challenging and now have many years of experience working within an information systems environment.
For me photography is about the moment. Capturing a moment in time, that will never happen again.
Photography is about light. Finding or making the right light, whether it is the light of an early morning Eastern Sierra Sunrise, the warm afternoon light hitting a Sandhill Crane in flight, the glow from incandescent lights of a city skyline, or painting your own light with a Nikon speedlight.
It is also about patience. Many great photographers just have a lot of patience. Waiting for the moment it clicks…as the photographer Joe McNally’s book is titled.
