My name is Paul Gill and I am a photographer from Santa Rosa, California. Photography is an avocation. My real job is a Network Engineer with the Superior Court of California in Sonoma County.
I learned about travel, outdoor adventure and cameras at a young age. I learned about the Joy of Photography and what a camera can do. My dad and brothers lead me into the world of f stops. Ansel Adams, Eliot Porter, Ed Cooper and Galen Rowell were and always will be inspirations.
I shoot with Nikons. Nature is the creative outlet I do best. Landscapes were the training ground; chasing the magic light. Wildlife is the challenging game, catching wildlife in action is rewarding and fascinating at the same time. Urban areas are wonderful for the lights of the city. I live in Santa Rosa California and find Sonoma County to be a great backyard for a photographer.
My first camera was a half frame camera my dad gave to me. Film photography always had that magical feel to it. Learning black and white development skills in a photographic darkroom was a great foundation. Further exploration into Color work opened my eyes to the world of saturated color and the magic light. The Digital Revolution brought the ability to experiment and bring the skills to an even higher level.
I got a Nikon camera, I love to take a photograph...Paul Simon
