Bald Eagles Fighting For Salmon
Bald Eagles Fighting For Salmon photographs the beauty and behavior of the American Bald Eagle.
The American Bald Eagle is a majestic animal. It is easily the most beautiful bird I have ever seen and photographed. The white head of the Bald Eagle is regal. When you witness a Bald Eagle your heart stops from the beauty this bird. When you see the distinguished characteristics of the Bald Eagle you see why it was chosen to be the emblem of the United States of America.
Another characteristic of the Bald Eagle that I appreciate is the behavior of this bird. Bald Eagles are fascinating to watch due to their unique and fascinating behavior.
Bald eagles spend hours perched in trees overlooking water, their keen eyes alert for feeding opportunities. One of those opportunities they sometimes do is to steal from others. In the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve you often witness the theft of a salmon by eagles fighting over the fish.
Bald Eagles Fighting For Salmon and these battles for the salmon are impressive to watch. Often multiple birds may be seen attempting to steal a fish. As the owner battles with one attacker a third attacker may approach from the side and take full advantage of the situation.
These battles for salmon can be seen in one unique and beautiful place and that is the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve near Haines, Alaska. This is the only one place in the world where an event such as Bald Eagles Fighting for Salmon can be seen.
I have written before about the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve being a favorite place of mine.
The Preserve was established to protect the world’s largest concentration of Bald Eagles. It preserves the critical habitat for the Bald Eagle. It also sustains and protects the natural salmon runs. The Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve consists of 48,000 acres of river bottom land of the Chilkat, Kleheni, and Tsirku Rivers. These river flats attract Bald Eagles to the area by the availability of spawned-out salmon and open waters in late fall and winter.
Bald Eagles Fighting For Salmon is a fascinating event to witness and photograph.
