Pacific Flyway Geese is an image taken in late afternoon light along the Pacific Flyway of California.
The Pacific Flyway Geese photograph was taken at the Colusa National Wildlife Refuge. The Colusa National Wildlife Refuge is one of six federal refuges in the Sacramento Valley north of Sacramento.
It is common to see Pacific Flyway Geese at the Colusa National Wildlife Refuge. The Sacramento Valley is one of the most critical and important wintering areas for Waterfowl in North America. In winter up to 50,000 Pacific Flyway Geese are residents at the Colusa National Wildlife Refuge.
The Pacific Flyway is an extensive waterfowl migratory route that extends from Alaska to Patagonia. Millions of various species of waterfowl utilize the Pacific Flyway. Refuges in the Pacific Flyway are relied on by Pacific Flyway Geese to rest and feed during the migrations. Sacramento Valley supports approximately 44 percent of wintering waterfowl using the Pacific Flyway.
Pacific Flyway Geese was taken on a clear winter afternoon. The Geese were active as the day was ending. The sun was beginning to set off to the west and emitted a glow of light onto the flying Geese.
The warm afternoon light bathed the Pacific Flyway Geese with this colorful light and brought the days photo shoot to a colorful end.
