Sand Island Petroglyphs

Sand Island Petroglyphs are an excellent stop on a road trip through the Southwest. They are some of the easiest petroglyphs to view and experience.

The petroglyphs are located near the town of Bluff, Utah in the Cedar Mesa Area of southeast Utah. They are easily located in Sand Island State Park about 4 miles from Bluff. As you enter the park veer right after .3 miles and you will come to the fenced area protecting the Petroglyphs. The Petroglyphs were created by Native American people from thousands of years ago. They would camp along the calm section of the San Juan River and write their mythology on the cliff walls of the area. You get a glimpse into people of years ago.

The Sand Island Petroglyphs should be admired and protected, for others to appreciate.
